Next Meeting
Tuesday, July 14, 7p.m.

Bruce Bauman will be the speaker.

Disturbing item contributed by Kim Whitmore-Weber:

My comments and suggestions:
I am embarrassed. My home town is restricting enjoyment of photography, by disallowing us to photograph our festival. The FREEDOM Festival at that!

My way of expression is through photography. FDR delivered a speech January 6, 941 stating, ÉÓwe look forward to a world founded upon four essential human freedoms. The first is freedom of speech and expression
everywhere in the world.Ó

Freedom Festival 2009 is catering to entertainers, allowing them to dictate how we enjoy our own festival. In the future, just do not sign a contract if it includes controlling how Evansville citizens enjoy the Festival,
within the law. I am not aware of a law against photography.

My husband and I just returned from the CMA Festival, Nashville, TN. There, we found 200 or more artists allowing photography at 4 different stages, for four days. Artists who can be photographed exist, and
are more popular that The Bacon Brothers, or Billy Currington. I wonder if the dock dogs mind photographs of their jumps? I was looking forward to them more than the music artists. The CMA festival boasts over 50,000
attend the nightly stadium shows at LP Field. Hundreds of thousands attend the free concerts at the other three stages during the four day festival.

Did I mention, we will not attend any of the Freedom Festival 2009, in Evansville? I would have bought 5 wrist bands today, but received an email from the Fine Arts Camera Club of Evansville, president this morning.
He gave us a link to the Courier/Press article about no SLR cameras allowed. Everyone knows a p-n-s camera shoots video, and excellent stills. So do cell phones. Are cell phone restricted, too? SLR users work just as hard
as everyone else, buying good equipment for their hobby, and just want to enjoy our hobby with our free time like everyone else. Unfortunately, we have to leave our home town to receive a warm welcome.

The Owensboro Photography Club is spreading the word, and I hear a prominent Photography instructor of a technical college here in Evansville, spoke of your decision on Facebook as well.

I hope next year will be better for us all.

Sincerely,

Kim Weber
Photographer & Native of Evansville
